Located just an hour east of Atlanta, Walton County has an unusually rich historical presence in Georgia’s history. Named in honor of George Walton, one of the three Georgians who signed the Declaration of Independence, Walton County is home to many historical sites, including the William Harris Homestead and the Brodnax House, and is comprised of the growing cities of Monroe, Loganville and Social Circle. Monroe, the county seat, is often called the “City of the Governors” because seven of the state’s governors came from there.
